Handheld batch coding printer parts
Every part of a handheld thermal inkjet coder, what it does, and how to tell it is the one that has failed. We make these machines and their parts in Pune, so a single part for a machine that is down and a bulk order for a fleet are both things we can quote.

Ink cartridge
The one part you will buy again and again, and the only one that decides your cost per thousand prints. On a thermal inkjet machine the print head is inside the cartridge, so this is a consumable rather than a repair.
Also called: TIJ cartridge, inkjet cartridge, batch coding ink cartridge
Cartridge holder
The clamp that holds the cartridge and carries the firing signals to it. When a machine rejects cartridges that are perfectly good, this is almost always what has actually failed.
Also called: cartridge clip, cartridge bracket, print head holder
Guide roller
The wheel that rides the pack and measures how far the machine has travelled. Everything about print geometry depends on it turning cleanly and staying in contact.
Also called: travel roller, measuring wheel, printer wheel
Encoder
What turns the roller turning into the timing the print head fires on. It is the second half of the same job the roller starts, and the thing to look at once a new roller has not fixed a geometry fault.
Also called: encoder disc, shaft encoder, rotary encoder
Battery
What lets the machine work away from a socket, which is most of the reason to own a handheld in the first place. Batteries age by charge cycle rather than by calendar, so replacement is normal maintenance.
Also called: rechargeable battery, battery pack, Li-ion battery
Charger
The part most often replaced unnecessarily, and the one most often at fault when a battery is blamed. It is cheap enough that keeping a spare is simply sensible.
Also called: power adapter, charging adapter, power supply
Keypad and display
Where the message is composed on the machine. Failures here are nearly always ingress at the edges rather than electronics, which is worth knowing because it changes what you do next.
Also called: touchscreen, LCD screen, display panel
Main board
The board that drives the head, the screen and the connectivity. It is the most expensive part in a handheld and the last one to suspect, because almost everything blamed on it turns out to be something cheaper.
Also called: controller board, PCB, motherboard
Handle and housing
The body you actually hold. Easy to dismiss as cosmetic, right up to the point where a cracked housing is what lets solvent reach the board.
Also called: grip, body shell, housing
Mounting bracket
The accessory that most changes what a handheld can do. Held in the hand the print lands where the operator puts it; in a bracket it lands in the same place every time.
Also called: stand, conveyor mount, fixed bracket
Cleaning kit
The cheapest thing on this page and the one that saves the most money, because most cartridges thrown away as dead were blocked rather than empty.
Also called: nozzle cleaner, cleaning solution, lint-free wipes
Carry case
Unglamorous, and the reason some machines survive five years of being moved between sites while others arrive cracked. If your machine travels, this is a part rather than an afterthought.
Also called: hard case, tool case, storage case
Not sure which part has failed?
Parts are sold against your machine, not against a picture. Send the model plate and a photograph of the part in place and we confirm the fit in writing before anything is dispatched.
