My machine will not switch on. Is the board dead?

Probably not. Work through the cheaper causes first: a known-good charged battery, a known-good adapter, and clean battery contacts. A machine that is dead on battery but runs on mains is a battery fault, not a board fault. Only when a machine will not start on a known-good battery and a known-good adapter is the board a reasonable suspicion.

Will a replacement board come with my messages and settings on it?

No. A new board arrives with factory defaults, so your stored messages, your print settings and any machine configuration have to be loaded again. If the old machine still powers up at all, photograph everything before you start the swap — it is far quicker than reconstructing it afterwards.

Is it worth replacing the board or should I buy a new machine?

It depends on the age of the machine and on what killed the board. On a machine with plenty of life left and a one-off cause, a board is usually worth it. Look for the cause, not just the symptom
A board killed by solvent ingress will be killed again by the same ingress. Find where it got in before you fit a new one.

Record your settings first
If the machine still powers up at all, photograph your stored messages and settings. A new board arrives empty.

Fit with the battery disconnected
Disconnect power before touching the board, note every connector orientation as you go, and handle it by the edges.

Reload and test end to end
Restore the settings, load a message, and run a full print onto scrap before it goes back on the line.
