Check the foam, not just the shell
Collapsed foam is the common failure. A machine that can move inside a closed case is being knocked every time it travels.

A loose cartridge rattling against the machine is how nozzle plates get damaged and how ink ends up over everything.

A machine stored uncapped will have a blocked nozzle plate when it comes out, whatever the case does.
