What is a batch coding machine?
A batch coding machine prints a pack’s variable data — MRP, batch or lot number, manufacturing and expiry dates — directly onto the pack itself. A handheld thermal inkjet (TIJ) coder is the portable kind: you hold it against the pack and draw it across, so it needs no conveyor and no line change.

What TIJ means
Thermal inkjet. A tiny heater inside each nozzle boils a microscopic amount of ink, and the bubble pushes a droplet onto the surface.
It is how nearly every handheld coder sold today works. The practical consequence is that the print head lives inside the cartridge rather than inside the machine — so a blocked head is a consumable you replace, not a repair. It is also why the cartridge, not the machine, is the number that matters over a year of production.

Type the message on the machine. Fixed text, a date field, a counter, a code — or all four stacked.
Swipe
Hold the grip flat against the pack and draw it across. A guide roller measures travel, so the print does not stretch or bunch.
Done
Move to the next pack. Nothing to peel, nothing to align, no line to stop and restart.

Water-based
For carton, corrugated board and paper. The ink soaks into the fibre and fixes almost immediately. The cheapest cartridge and the most forgiving.
Fast-dry
For plastic, foil, glass and metal. Nothing absorbs the ink on these surfaces, so it has to set on top of them.
Cost per thousand
Cartridge price divided by yield, times a thousand. That figure — not the price on the machine — is what you actually pay to code a year of production.

Before you buy
How do I know which of your printers to buy?
Three answers decide it in almost every case: what the pack is made of, how many lines have to fit on it, and roughly how many packs a day. Tell us those and we will point at one machine and one cartridge. If none of the range fits your job we will say so rather than sell you the closest thing.
What does print height actually get me?
Print height is the tallest band the head can lay down in a single pass. A taller one comfortably fits two lines of small text, or one line of larger text with a code beside it; a shorter one means a second pass, which on a handheld means lining it up by eye. It varies by machine — each one states its own height on its product page.
Can one person operate it, or do I need to train an operator?
One person, and the training is mostly about the ink rather than the machine. Composing a message is typing on a touchscreen. The part worth ten minutes of instruction is which cartridge goes with which surface, and holding the unit flat while you draw it across.
How does it compare with pre-printing the dates on the pack?
Pre-printing commits you to a date before you have made the product, so every change of plan becomes scrap. Coding at the point of packing means the pack is blank until the moment it is filled, which is why it is the normal arrangement for anything with a shelf life.
Is this the right machine for a high-speed line?
Above a few thousand packs a day on a continuously running line, a fixed in-line coder mounted over the conveyor is usually the correct tool. Tell us your volume and we will point you at the right machine — or tell you plainly if it is not something we sell.
Can it print a different code on every single pack?
A counter that increments pack to pack is standard. If you need codes that are unique and verifiable rather than merely sequential — serialisation proper — that is what our sister platform TrueGTIN generates, and the coder is what puts them on the pack. What is the warranty, and how long does a cartridge last?
One year on the machine from your invoice date, on everything we stock, and the terms are the short ones printed on that invoice. Cartridge yield is the figure we still will not publish: it varies with print height, how many characters you print and what you print on, so a headline number would mislead more often than it would help. Tell us your print and roughly how many packs a day and we will give you a yield estimate and your real cost per thousand prints, in writing, before you order.
How quickly can I actually have one?
Order before 12 noon on a working day and it is dispatched from Pune the same day by tracked courier, Monday to Saturday. Later than that and it goes out the next working day.
