Handheld coder part

Mounting brackets and stands for handheld coders

The accessory that most changes what a handheld can do. Held in the hand the print lands where the operator puts it; in a bracket it lands in the same place every time.

Also known as: stand · conveyor mount · fixed bracket · bench stand · clamp mount

Parts are sold against your machine, not against a picture. Send the model plate and a photograph of the part in place and we confirm the fit in writing before anything is dispatched.

When this is the part that has failed

  • Print position varying pack to pack
  • An operator tied up doing nothing but coding
  • Repetitive strain from long coding runs
  • A slow line where packs pass a fixed point

What it is

Function
Holds the machine at a fixed height and angle to the pack
Typical forms
Bench stand, clamp mount, conveyor-side bracket
Main benefit
Repeatable print position, and a free pair of hands
Not a substitute for
A true in-line coder above a few thousand packs a day

Does it fit my machine?

Brackets are matched to the machine body and to what you are mounting to, so tell us both: the machine, and whether it is a bench, a conveyor rail or a frame. A photograph of the mounting point saves a round trip.

Replacing it

  1. 1

    Decide bench or line

A bench stand suits short runs and mixed products. A conveyor-side bracket suits one product passing a fixed point. They are different parts.

  2. 2

Set the height to the print face

The nozzle plate wants to be square to the pack and at a consistent standoff. Set that before you tighten anything.

  3. 3

    Check the travel

The pack still has to move past the head at a steady speed. A bracket fixes the machine, not the feed.

  4. 4

    Lock everything

Vibration walks an unlocked bracket out of position over a shift, and the print drifts with it.

  5. 5

Run a full batch before you trust it

Check the first and last pack of a real batch, not just the first two.

Frequently asked questions

Can I mount a handheld coder on my conveyor?
For low and moderate speeds, yes, and a bracket is much the cheapest way to get repeatable print position. What it does not give you is a true in-line machine: there is no product sensor triggering each print and no line integration. Above a few thousand packs a day on a line that does not stop, you want a fixed in-line coder rather than a handheld in a bracket, and we will tell you so.
Will a bracket improve my print quality?
It improves print consistency, which is usually what people mean. Held in the hand, the standoff and the angle change slightly with every pack and every operator; in a bracket they are set once. If your codes are legible but land in a different place on every pack, a bracket is the fix.
